Photographer Hans Rydman What can you do? "The man - the motion" versus "The man - the dance". Fear of dance but not of motion? Those are a few questions choreographer Peter Svenzon explores in the play "I-MALE" In the Swedish society there's no male cultural inheritance dancing as in many other countries, although that doesn’t mean there's a lack of motion.

There are endless amounts of athletes who totally lean on what their coach is telling them to do but if you mention dancing, most of them turn into stilted pieces of wood. In I-MALE, Peter Svenzon wanted to explore similarities between sports, martial arts, physical labour and dancing. He also wanted to make the dance's contingency to mirror today's society visible, To make "ordinary" boys and men recognize themselves in the "new" dance. A thought about creating culture in the present, to capture elements of various motion schemes and environments, more than a way to "save" the people afraid of dancing.

In the borderless dance, I-MALE five men of different origin, with different experiences come to explore motions, dynamics and rhythm. An ambition to work in a simple form, as naked as possible, in lighting, choreography as well as in expressions. Newly composed music will further point the attention to that same rhythm, the body's ability to express and integration with impulses from the surroundings. Peter Svenzon has many experiences of his own from sports, he has competed in speedway, hockey, squash, ultimate, swimming and more. He found dancing thru break-dance at the age of 13 and has since then been experimenting with the various forms of bodily expressions.
